A custom shop category tree can be created for each shop. The shop category tree once set, will appear above the site category tree one the left side of the browser screen when a visitor is in the shop or viewing items.
The following are the steps in setting up a custom category tree :
1 - go to Store Profile, select Categories tab
2 - click on New Custom Category to add the first top level category entry
3 - continue on with adding branches (sub-category) or additional top levels
4 - to move a category / sub-category, just click on the particular category/sub-category text and drag-and-drop into the proper location. You can promote or demote a category/sub-category using the drag-and-drop method.
5 - to enable / disable the display of shops custom category tree, click on Enable/Disable Store Categories (a checkmark enables the category tree, an un-checkmarked box disables the category tree).
6 - to assign / re-assign an item to the specific shop category/sub-category, go to Store's Product Listing view and select the appropriate category/sub-category for that item under the Store Category column.
We will be adding the capability to manage the product's store custom category with existing import/export utilities shortly.

Well, I did this (I think) and when I go to assign a product to a custom category, my custom category isn't in the list. So my store shows my items but the counts aren't right for the categories.

I'm a dufus...I got it! Right about the time you entered your reply, thanks! But I do notice that there's no item count next to our categories, is that right? Only reason I ask is that customers might see a category without a count next to it and assume there are no items listed in that category....

Hi! Category drag and drop does not appear to be functioning. It looks as though there is a javascript error in the page so it never saves the rearranged category list.
