I really like these stones and thought I would share some facts about them!
Dumortierite was named in 1881 after Eugene Dumortier, a French paleontologist who found this mineral in the Rhone-Alps region of France.
The mineral is usually blue or violet, but can also be brown or pink. Because of its color, the stone can be confused with Lapis Lazuli, Azurite, Blue Quartz, and Sodalite.
Deposits can be found in a number of different places around the world, such as the United States (Nevada, Arizona, and San Diego County, California), France, Brazil, Italy, Austria, Sri Lanka, Madagascar, and Namibia.
