To market, to marketplace
Soapy, Sudsy, Lavender, Loofah Love
Jun 14, 2009
Soapy Blessings' shop caught my eye because of the Bug be Gone natural insect repellent. We are trying to be as natural as can be in our house, and you might not know it, but mosquitoes are frightful down here on the Texas Gulf Coast in the summer time. My tot is a skeeter magnet, and I have been searching forever for a natural insect repellent. I wasn't sure how it would work, but Trish provided great details about her products and a personal experience about how different ingredients effect everyone differently.
As I was perusing the store for other possible products that I might want to pair with the Bug be gone, I came across Soapy Blessings Loofah Soaps.
Just a side note: I am a die hard shower gel gal. Always have been. It always seemed that shower gels were gentler on my skin and smelled so delicious I felt like I was bathing myself in the finest of cooking ingredients.A few months ago I really started investigating the benefits of handmade soaps, with their purported added moisture, zero chemicals and natural, healing and soothing ingredients.
I debated long and hard about this purchase! I did finally buy into the sopay "hype" and I will never go back to gels again! I am now a true handmade soap believer. Trish's Lavender Loofah soap is both exfoliating and moisturizing. The scent, one of my favorites, is so very soothing I almost don't want to get out the shower. I have also found it is much more travel friendly than any gel. There are no spills or leaks and I don't have to tote around an exfoliator and gel for the longer trips, this one is two-in-one.
We have tested the Bug Be Gone for short spurts and so far, working well. My tot has had no adverse reactions and it seems to be keeping the bugs away. It is also very travel friendly as it comes in a stick that resembles a deodorant container. The true test will be during her birthday bash in mid-July, outdoors. We are going to keep it on hand for guests so that everyone can report a bug bite free party.
I am thrilled by Trish's work and by the shopping experience. She was prompt, thorough and even included a lovely new soap sample.
I'll be back for more and more Soapy Blessings!

Green Market Bag
May 27, 2009
I bought a green market bag, literally! I found this lovely market bag (pictured above) handmade by Hook Yarn Inker in a birght green. It's a green market bag in more ways than one.
The construction is sturdy, the handle is the perfect length (so it doesn't fall of the shoulder) and it is roomy enough for plenty of produce. I have taken it to the farmer's market and grocery market on several occasions and love it more with each use. The crocheted construction of this bag is particularly useful for carrying produce. There is spacing enough so dampness or water won't stand in the bag and it's sturdy enough to hold plenty.
If you haven't stopped by Hook Yarn Inker's store, do it today! She has a varied selection of items, all handmade with the perfect attention to detail. Vi (HookYarnInker's mastermind) was kind, courteous, speedy and very helpful. I can't wait to shop with her again.
Thanks HookYarnInker for a great experience and a perfect product!

A Rose by Any Other Name....
May 10, 2009
I gave roses to my mother and grandmother on Mother's day.
How cliche and boring, right?
Wrong!
These roses were handmade, unique, silk beauties, specially fitted to my mother's and grandmother's personality and stature. If you are looking for a very unique fashionable piece to spruce up an outfit or make a statement at a special event, you need to visit Farha immediately! Her work is stunning and she is a true artist. Don't just go by what I say, have a look through her store http://flowersbyfarha.silkfair.com/ Contact her and give her pieces a try. She does not disappoint.
All I can say is, after having seen her work in person and beautifully displayed on my gram and my mom, the pictures simply do not do justice. Both recipients were speechless. After pinning them on, I realized that they were probably the most beautiful Mother's Day gifts I had ever given. We (Farha and I) were champs on such a special day.
Thanks Rebecca (aka Farha)! You were my first shopping experience here and I was not disappointed. Silkfair is turning out to be great multi-boutique destination full of one of kind finds for this shopping maven.
Oh, and the gorgeous piece she made for my grandmother is pictured above!

The Challenge: Help me Find the Perfect Gift
Dec 19, 2008I am having such fun sipping my chai, staying in from heavy, winter Gulf Coast fog and perusing the wares available here. Although, I haven't officially set up a shop, I find the Silkfair marketplace wide in variety, yet unique in its offerings. I have always been told that I have a knack for finding the perfect gifts, stylish, yet classy. I am currently searching for the ultimate gift to give my best friend when she becomes a mom (due in January) and to my dear sister, an anthropologist who adores the antiquities, for her 23rd birthday (yes, young in body, old and wise in the soul).
I challenge you, shop owners, to help me find the perfect gifts. Make me the hero, and I promise to give you all of the credit.
