Loving Michelle Obama's Funky Necklace

Go First Lady Mrs. O! A craft-lookin'-tastic necklace at a political event (the White House Correspondents Dinner). Stylish Michelle may have worn big celebrity-favorite designer, Michael Kors' dress, but her necklace is pure funk.

Now, I feel inspired by necklaces in my *taste*, what about you? Would you make things inspired by celebrity wears, and/or would you even buy something? Or, as a designer, or to make yourself stand out, do you totally stay away?

I'm really not sure how others feel, and I'm not sure if I want to gather up the supplies I have that could fit and start things up.

See more photos on my fashion blog: http://blogs.pursedlips.net/3140731

P.S. our brand is taking it slowly until I fully move in with my boyfriend, and hence have more time, money and all my supplies here in our apartment, so our shop is lacking a lot of stock. However if you're curious to see more, send a message and mention any key word describing a ballpark of what we could list, of course we'll just see if we have anything near related---but you could also see what we have for some idea of what we've done already. :-)

New Craft Collection Project AND Wow, I love hand sewing!

May 08, 2009
I got this idea for a new craft that's fashion related and will "promote" my clothing designs with actual fabric sewn sort of flat onto a fabric canvas back - as art. Like fabric design sketch art.

So I'm not ready to show any previews yet but I'm loving it so lots will come, and I'm thinking this is one good direction to go in. (While I am slower at other [slow anyway] creating while I'm still moving in with my boyfriend.)

One thing I'm loving is the hand sewing. I used to find it too slow, but now I'm finding it lacks the stress of the speed and frequency of "flub ups" and re-dos that machine sewing has. I seem to find I can sew smoothly a ton, but then hit all my snags one after the other, and then I get this fear and hesitation.

With these small items, like the size of sketches, I'm so far not minding the slow speed of hand sewing and I quite like the lower amount of risk.

But best of all, I think I'm doing a great job of making little sort-of 3D haute art couture! I'm totally recognizing this jacket that is my first project - as - du-du-duhhh - a jacket! He he.

Weee.

Although, snag alert, I've broken and lost my last needle threader. Michael's trip tomorrow? Yeah.

I'm never perfect. ;-)

New Home for Ella Mode Shop

Apr 29, 2009
We still have most products to list (and more to photograph, and finish) and our dayjobs to compete, but http://ellamo.de has our new shop hosted at silkfair.com, which we've found to be a great venue with loads of options.

As you can see, the blog is also here now, too - because Silk Fair boasts the blogging feature as well.

We find the less expensive hosting is better for our budget in this time our country is in. We can use the old shop fees toward other uses that will hopefully benefit business.

Speaking of business, we're currently building prototypes for our "signature" line of small versatile bags for evening or to tuck inside purses.

Perhaps even bigger news than that is that I've taken my boyfriend on to help with sewing and things. Who knew I'd find such a man as one who would/could join me in this? It lessens stress, I'll tell you. But perhaps it increases time as I show him my designs. Or not. That stress I have/had alone, it delays things!

We're working on a line of pearl/ribbon jewelry also but my supplies are limited and so is cash, so it will be a small debut of a long-lasting line because I absolutely love it. Currently I need to find the best photo place in our new home together. Oy.

So that's a rundown of major business news. If you are also a Silk Fair user, please contact/friend us up!
